Tight Race Shaping Up at the WAC Championships

Day One Results

KAPOLEI, Hawaii--Three teams share the lead after the first day of the Women's Golf WAC Championships at Kapolei Golf Course. San Jose State, Nevada and defending champion Tulsa each carded a total of 305 during Monday's first round action.

Thirty-five golfers from seven teams battled through gusty conditions in the first ever WAC women's golf championship in Hawaii. The Spartans, Wolf Pack and Golden Hurricane picked up where they left off last year as the teams were also the top three finishers in the 2002 championships in Nevada.

UTEP is in fourth place with a total of 316, followed by host Hawaii (317), Boise State (320) and SMU (334).

Nevada senior Meghan Ingalls stands as the individual leader with an even par 72. Tulsa, looking for its fifth straight title, was paced by Suzie Fisher with a 73 and and Julie Tvede with a 74. Ashley Gomes of San Jose State shot a 75 to finish the day in the fourth.

Second round action resumes tomorrow with the 54-hole tournament concluding on Wednesday. First tee will be at 10:02 a.m.
