Rainbow Wahine Wrap Up Regular Season with 9-3 Loss to Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team concluded its regular season with a 9-3 loss to third-ranked Stanford, Sunday, at the Avery Aquatic Center. The loss snapped UH's six-match win streak and dropped the Rainbow Wahine to 10-12 overall, 4-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Freshman Kristy Bagnell scored twice for the Rainbow Wahine, which gave her the team-lead with 24 goals on the season. Goalkeeper Amber Lumb tried her best to keep the team in the match, posting 11 saves.

Sisters Hannah and Kelty Luber each scored twice in the first half as the Cardinal built a 5-0 halftime lead. Hawai‘i finally got on the scoreboard, on its first possession of the third period, with Bagnell’s first goal. But the Cardinal answered with two more goals to take a 7-1 lead into the final period.

The Rainbow Wahine take the next two weeks off before preparing for the MPSF Tournament, held Apr. 25-27 at the Avery Aquatic Center.
