Northridge, Calif. -The Rainbow Wahine suffered a close 4-3 loss, Saturday against the Cal State Northridge Matadors. After a day of fierce competition the Wahine dropped to 4-7 overall.
Early in the day the Wahine dropped the doubles match point, winning just a single match in the No. 3 spot. In a close call, the Wahine team of Paige Mainor and Lauren Fitzgerald squeaked by Northridge, 9-8 (1). Mainor and Fitzgerald improved their doubles record to 4-5 overall.
On the singles side, UH won 3 of 6 singles matches in the No. 4-6 spots. In a nail biting No. 1 court match Lauren Fitzgerald split sets with Teresa Simonyan, but dropped the final set, 6-3.
On the No. 5 court, freshman Renata Camargo extended her personal win streak to 6 with a defeat of Brittany Bierman, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Camargo, a regular at the No. 5 spot is 6-1 for the year so far. Sophomore Kimberly Curtis remains unbeaten on the current Rainbow Wahine road trip. She posted her third victory of the season and her second on the women's trip through California.
The Rainbow Wahine conclude their current road trip with a dual meet at UC-Irvine, Sunday.
