IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai'i men's tennis team easily defeated West Virginia, 6-1, Saturday, in Day 3 of the Anteater Classic. The Warriors (12-10) advance to the fifth place match, where they meet Cal Poly, Sunday.
UH took five of six singles and two of three doubles matches for its sixth victory in its last eight contests. Senior Reginaldo Moralejo recorded his fourth consecutive victory with a 6-3, 6-2 sweep of Julian Mesa at the No. 4 court to improve to 17-7 on the year. Senior Francisco Brignole returned to his winning form, rallying to defeat Kyle Markham, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 position, for his seventh victory in his last eight matches.
Junior Ryan Sceats and senior Justin Menolascino each picked up their 12th singles victory after winning on the No.1 and No. 3 courts, respectively. Sceats teamed up with Jarrod Diepraam for an 8-5 win at No.2 doubles while Menolascino partnered with Malino Oda for an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 court.
The Warriors will meet the same Cal Poly team it defeated, 4-3, five days ago in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
