Rainbows Take Easter Tournament with 13-2 Win Over Western Illinois

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (17-14, 3-2 Easter Tournament) defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks (10-14, 1-4 ET) 13-2 to take the 2003 Rainbow Easter Tournament title in front of a crowd of 2,941 at the Les Murakami Stadium. Keahi Rawlins (1-2) got the win for UH while James Kalinowski (0-3) picked up the loss for Western Illinois.

Andrew Sansaver led the way for the Rainbows, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Matthew Inouye added a 2-for-5 game with a double, two RBI and two runs while Brian Finegan went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored. Joshua Green also added two hits and an RBI while Kevin Gilbride had a 1-for-3 night with two RBI and two runs.

Sansaver, Finegan, Isaac Omura and Ricky Bauer were named to the all-tournament team with Inouye winning the Most Outstanding Player award.

The Rainbows jumped out to a quick lead when Finegan and Sansaver hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 1-0. Sansaver then came home on an error before Inouye hit an RBI-double to add another run. Gilbride would then bring in one more run to cap the four-run first inning for the 'Bows.

Brent Cook would drive in a run in the second inning to extend the Rainbow lead to 5-0. Hawai`i would add two more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh while allowing just two Leatherneck runs throughout the game, giving UH the 13-2 final score on the win.

UH will now head on the road to face the top-ranked Rice Owls next week in Houston, Texas. The games will be on Friday, Apr. 4, Saturday, Apr. 5, and Sunday, Apr. 6.
