Pacific Homers Past UH, 8-3

HONOLULU - The Pacific Tigers hit a solo home run and a grand slam en route to an 8-3 win over host Hawai`i tonight in the first day of the Hawai`i Invitational at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UOP started the scoring on a solo shot by Ashlie D'Errico in the third inning off UH starter Melissa Coogan (12-5).

The Tigers added six more in the fifth highlighted by Brandy Thurman's grand slam. D'Errico also contributed with a RBI single in the inning.

Shannon Tabion came in and went the final 2.1 innings of relief allowing three runs on three hits with four strike outs and one walk.

UH got all three of its runs in the sixth as they took advantage of UOP's reliever Cathie Hacker who worked only two-thirds of an inning for starter Natalie King (8-3). Hacker walked four batters in the inning before King returned to go the final 2.1 innings, for 6.1 in the game with five strike outs and four walks. The big hit for UH in the sixth was Stacey Porter's two-run single to right center.

The round-robin format continues Friday through Sunday. Tomorrow's games begin at 1 p.m. Hawai`i plays two games tomorrow -- 5 p.m. against Tokyo and 7 p.m. versus Wisconsin.
