Waipio, HI –The University of Hawai`i Women’s tennis team pulled a close win, Monday against the West Virginia University Mountaineers at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex. The 4-3 win helped the Rainbow Wahine improve their record to 6-9 on the season.
The Rainbow Wahine pulled ahead early in the meet winning doubles matches on the No. 2 and 3 courts to clinch the first point of the day. On the No. 2 court, the doubles team of Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor added another win to advance their season win streak to seven. Fitzgerald and Mainor beat the West Virginia team of Anna Marie Underwood and Jennifer Watkins, 8-2 to improve their record to 9-5 on the season.
On the singles side UH split match points, 3-3 but with their doubles point pulled a win for the day. In a close decision on the No. 1 court Lauren Fitzgerald split sets against Melissa Day but pulled a 6-3 victory in the last set to win the match. Kimberly Curtis did the same on the No. 6 court against West Virginia’s Raynie Theis. On the No. 5 court Renata Camargo got back on track with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Catherine Koontz. Camargo has a 7-2 record this season.
The Rainbow Wahine next face the University of Wyoming, Wednesday (3/19), 3:00PM at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
