Rainbows Get Back on Track Beating No. 28 Coastal Carolina 6-2

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (14-8) defeated the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (18-5) 6-2 in front of a crowd of 2,009 at the Les Murakami Stadium Tuesday. Richard Olsen (2-1) picked up the win for the Rainbows while Jake Hurry (4-1) got the loss for the Chants. Clary Carlsen pitched three scoreless innings to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Matthew Inouye led the Rainbows, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Isaac Omura also extended his hitting streak to seven games as he went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Brian Finegan added a 1-for-2 night with two RBI and a double, while Brent Cook went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.

The Rainbows got on the board early as Rocky Russo hit an RBI-single, scoring Finegan. Cook then drove in Russo with a run-scoring double, putting UH up 2-0 after the first inning.

The Chants then answered back as Jeff Baker blasted a solo home run in the top of the third to cut the 'Bows lead to 2-1.

Hawai`i then scored two more runs in the sixth inning on sacrifices by Omura and Finegan, extending the lead to 4-1.

The Chants would add a run in the top of the seventh before Inouye would hit an RBI-double in the bottom of the inning, making it 5-2. Finegan would then double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Omura, to make the final 6-2.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow with Reid Horton pitching for UH against Coastal Carolina's Steven Carter.
