Hawai`i Win Home Opener Over Pacific

HONOLULU - The Hawai`i women's water polo team defeated Pacific, 6-4, Thursday in its first home match of the season. Hawai`i, ranked eighth for the second week in a row, were able to advance to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the MPSF.

Chelsea Garner-Prohs put the Rainbow Wahine up on the board early, scoring within the first minute of the match. The Tigers were able to score a goal mid quarter tying the game, 1-1. With 1:22 left on the clock Kristy Bagnell scored a goal giving the 'Bows the lead. Hawai`i extended their lead in the second with two goals by Garner-Prohs and Erin Kocher.

In the middle of the fourth quarter the score at 4-2, Pacific fought back scoring a goal and putting them within one. Hawai`i answered back with two goals in a row from Garner-Prohs and Karin van Hoff. Within the final minute, The Tigers were able to score one more goal, making the final score 6-4.

Garner-Prohs led the Rainbow Wahine with three goals. Backing her up was Bagnall, van Hoff, and Tracy Andersen each with one goal.

The Rainbow Wahine return to the water next week Friday, Mar. 21, as they take on second-ranked USC, 6:00 p.m. at the Duke Kahamoku Aquatic Complex.
