Rainbow Wahine Sweep Buffalo Bulls

Waipio, HI – After dropping their last two meets on the road, the Rainbow Wahine are getting back on track at home. The University of Hawai`i women’s tennis team swept the University at Buffalo with a 7-0 victory over the Bulls, Tuesday at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.

On the doubles courts the Rainbow Wahine dominated the Bulls giving up just five games in three matches. On the No. 2 court Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor shut out Buffalo’s Michelle Kollaroca and Erica Zielinski, 8-0. With their victory the doubles team of Fitzgerald and Mainor extended their personal win streak to five on the season.

After scoring the first point of the day, the Rainbow Wahine continued their winning ways by capturing all six singles matches. The toughest match of the day was played out on the No. 2 court, Stacy Hakikawa dropped the first set but came back to split sets and win the tie-breaker 7-6.

Kimberly Curtis extended her personal win-streak to four on the season with an easy, 6-1, 6-0 win over Buffalo’s Lisa Wittman. On the No. 6 court Freshman Beverly Thomas captured her first career win with a victory over Wendy Rose, 6-3, 6-1.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is a dual meet against Illinois State, 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2003.
