PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Hawai'i women's water polo team finished sixth at the Stanford Invitational, Sunday, losing both of its matches of the day. The Rainbow Wahine (1-3) dropped a 9-5 decision to No. 3 USC and later lost the fifth place match to No. 7 San Jose State, 6-5.

Senior Karin van Hoff led the Rainbow Wahine attack, scoring two goals in each match to increase her season total to a team-best five. Freshman Megan Jefferey was in goal in each match, posting seven goals against the Women of Troy and eight against the Spartans.

Hawai'i lost for the 13th time in 15 all-time chances against perennial power USC. The Women of Troy led 7-3 after three quarters before the Rainbow Wahine scored twice in the fourth period. Also scoring for the Rainbow Wahine were Shannon Carroll and Beth Novick.

UH let one slip away against the Spartans. Hawai'i led 5-3 after two periods. The Spartans tied the game at 5 with 1:23 remaining in the third quarter, then scored with 4:29 in the fourth quarter on a man-up opportunity.

Hawai'i takes 12 days off before travelling to UC Irvine, Feb. 21 and UCLA, Feb. 22.
