HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team had its two-match win streak come to an end after a 6-1 loss to No. 25 San Diego State, Friday afternoon, at the brand new Central Oahu Regional Park. The Rainbow Wahine, who returned to Islands from a six-match road trip, fell to 3-5 overall.
Freshman Renata Camargo posted UH’s only victory, a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katalina Romero in No. 5 singles. The victory extended her win streak to three, the longest of any Rainbow Wahine this season. Sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald, senior Stacy Hakikawa and freshman Mio Fukushima each had their modest two-match win streaks come to an end. Fukushima had won four of her last five matches before suffering a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Patricia Graf in No. 3 singles.
San Diego State won all three doubles contests to take an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Justin Boutet and senior Polina Kravets teamed up at No.1 doubles for the first time this season but dropped their match, 8-2, to Silvia Tornier and Indra Erichsen.
The Rainbow Wahine next host Santa Clara, Sunday, at the Central Oahu Tennis Complex.
