Varsity Crushes Alumnae, 12-6

HONOLULU - The Hawai'i women's water polo team proved too much for its alumnae, winning 12-6, Sunday, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Rainbow Wahine officially kicks off the 2003 season at the Stanford Invitational next weekend, Feb. 8-9.

Newcomer Shannon Carroll scored three goals in her Rainbow Wahine debut, including twice during UH's five-goal first period. Freshman Christy Bagnall and sophomore Makana Whitford each chipped in with two goals.

The alumnae team, who was made up of 16 former players, rallied for five goals in the third and fourth periods, after falling behind 8-1.

Junior Leanna Hahn was in goal for the Rainbow Wahine, registering six saves. Hahn is one of 17 returnees from a team which finished 14-15 and eighth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament.
