Hawai`i Outlasts Sacramento State 3-2 Despite Rain and Power Delays

Box Score

HONOLULU - In a game that was delayed two hours and 20 minutes by rain and 20 more minutes by a blackout, the University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (4-1) defeated the Sacramento State Hornets (5-2) 3-2 in front of a crowd of 2,061 at the Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Chris George (2-0) picked up the complete game victory for Hawai`i while Marshall Plouffe (0-1) got the loss for Sacramento State.

George pitched nine innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out eight and walking just one. Brian Bock hit what turned out to be the game-winning home run for the 'Bows. Timothy Montgomery had a big day, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Brian Finegan remained hot at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and has now gotten a hit in every game of the season thus far.

The Hornets got on the board first in the top of the second before the Rainbows responded when Montgomery and Finegan got back-to-back RBI hits to put UH up 2-1 at the end of the second.

Sacramento State got another run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at two. The score stayed tied until Bock hit a home run over the left field fence to give the Rainbows the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

George did the rest as he gave up just one hit in the final four innings he pitched and preserved the UH victory.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. Justin Cayetano will go for Hawai`i while Chris Kinsey is scheduled to start for Sacramento State.
