WAIKOLOA, Hawai`i - The University of Hawai`i men's golf team began their spring campaign at the Waikoloa/Taylor Made Invitational, carding a first round 295 to finish the day tied for 17th.
The Warriors seven-over-par total was low, but not low enough as eight of the 24-teams in the field shot rounds of par or better. Junior Matt Kodama did his best to keep Hawai`i close, as he put together an even-par round of 72 to put him in a tie for 29th. Newcomer Eric Chang was one shot back of Kodama in a tie for 46th.
TCU led all teams after the opening round, as they carded a 276 total, five strokes better than Oklahoma. Baylor's Ryan Baca put together a six-under-par 66 to take a one shot lead over three other players.
The Warriors look to improve their position in tomorrow's second round, which begins at 8 a.m.
