MOSCOW, ID - The Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Long Beach State, Sunday, to fall to 1-3 on the season. The 49ers won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches.
The only bright spot for the Rainbow Wahine was at the No. 4 singles position, where freshman Mio Fukushima rallied past LBSU's Claudia Argumedo, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8. At No. 3 singles, senior Polina Kravets nearly pulled out a victory, winning the first set 6-3 but lost, 7-4, in the second set tiebreaker. Her opponent, Megan Biorkman won the third, 6-3.
In doubles competition, UH lost all three matches. In No. 1 singles, the duo of Stacy Hakikawa and Justine Boutet lost 8-1 to Laura Thomas and Biorkman. Fukushima and Kravets were edged by Kelly Chan and Alanah Carroll, 8-6, in No. 2 doubles and Lauren Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor dropped an 8-5 decision to Lindsey Marvel and Argumedo at the No. 3 spot.
The Rainbow Wahine continue its six-match road trip at Boise State, Tuesday, Feb. 11.
