Wailuku, Maui -Before an estimated crowd of 1300 the University of Hawai`I men's volleyball team racked up their third win in as many days on Friday against the Patriots of George Mason University, 30-21, 22-30, 30-18, 30-22. The win at the Maui War Memorial Gym gives the Warriors a 3-0 record in the 2003 four-island Fall Preview Tour.
The Warriors easily won their first match but encountered problems in the second match as they witnessed a newly invigorated George Mason team that refused to back down. George Mason took the second game but the Warriors quickly regrouped and took the last two games, 30-18 and 30-22.
Head coach Mike Wilton gives much credit for the win to sophomore transfer libero, Alfred Reft whose quick thinking and awesome digs gave the Warriors the focus and energy they needed to pull out another win.
"I think we won the first two games easily and as any team would they stepped their game up." Said Wilton, "We managed to reestablish ourselves in games 3 and 4 and pull out a win, but our game tonight was really up and down. Our next task is to mentally prepare for a tough match tomorrow on Molokai."
The Warriors play their final match of the series tomorrow at the Molokai High School Gym at 7:00PM
