BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Coed Sailing team finished second at the Stoney Burke Intersectional this past weekend, falling to No. 6 Stanford by 18 points.
The Rainbow team of Matt Stine and Sarah Reed took second in the A division with 51 points. They had three first place finishes, two second place finishes and four third place finishes.
UH's B division team of William Edwards and BJ Clausen finished fourth with 66 points. They had one first place finish, three third place finishes and five fourth place finishes.
Hawai`i fell behind the Cardinal early in the first day, as they trailed 36 to 55 going into Sunday. UH then came back and were just five points behind the lead after 10 races. But Stanford pulled away in the end, taking first in three of the final eight races to secure the victory.
UH and No. 7 USC were neck-and-neck for second place throughout the even. But a late disqualification for the Trojans and a first place finish by UH's A team in the final race gave Hawai`i second.
The Rainbow coed sailing team will next compete in the Pacific Coast Sloop Championships this coming weekend at Irvine, Calif.
