TEMPE, Ariz. - Hawai`i freshman Dana Buchanan placed 16th overall and last year's top runner Victoria Chang participated in her first race of the season this afternoon in the Arizona State Invitational held at the Kiwanis Park at Mesa Community College.
Buchanan posted a time of 18 minutes and 54.8 seconds for top billing for the Rainbow Wahine. Teammates Chantelle Laan and Chang were neck and neck in 19th (19:06.2) and 20th (19:08.3), respectively.
UH's two other scores were Heidi Frank (33rd, 19:49.7) and Jennifer Bell (37th, 20:03.2).
Also racing for UH this afternoon were Kelly Young, Monica Su, and Sharlene Carillo.
As a team, Hawai`i came in fifth place with 114 points as host Arizona State ran away with the title with 16 points as the Wildcats placed the top four individual spots.
Rounding out the Top 5 slots were ASU (16), Arizona (65), Utah (82), Long Beach State (105), and UH (114).
Hawai`i returns home to host its final home meet of the fall with the UH X-C Sprint (3K) Invitational Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 a.m. at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
