STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team finished 14th at the Pacific Invitational with a 900 total in the 54-hole event.
The Warriors improved each round in their season opener held at The Reserve at Spanos Park, but their 296 final round effort was not enough to improve their position. Newcomer James Beston led Hawai‘i with a 218 total to place in a tie for 38th. Beston followed up a second round 71 with an even-par 72 on the final day. Junior Matt Kodama put together a final round 73 for a 220 total, which put him into a tie for 49th.
UCLA cruised to a 16-shot victory by shooting the best team score each round (280-277-273) for an 830 total. However, it was Coastal Carolina’s Alvero Velasco who won the individual title, finishing with an 11-under-par 205 total.
Hawai‘i will next tee up at the Wolf Pack Invitational held October 7-8, hosted by Nevada.
