Hawai`i in Second After First Day of Women’s Sailing Nationals

HONOLULU—The 9th-ranked University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine sailing team began the defense of its 2001 national championship by finishing in second place after the first day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) North American Championships in the waters of Keehi Lagoon.

Senior All-American Molly O’Bryan and junior Sarah Hitchcock were tops in the “A” division with 26 points. Renee Curtis, Melody Torres, Jennifer Warnock and Lindsay Peters sailed in the “B” division and posted 28 points, fourth best. UH’s 54 total points puts them behind Old Dominion, which tallied 45 points for the day.

The competition continues tomorrow and concludes on Friday. Races begin at 9:45 a.m. on each day.
