KAHUKU, HI – The University of Hawai‘i men’s golf team finished in eighth place after the final round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Friday, at the Turtle Bay Resort’s Fazio Course.
Jaime Matsumura shot a final round of 71 and finished with a 219 total to lead the Warriors and finish in a tie for 17th place overall. Senior captain Norman-Ganin Asao finished one shot back after carding a 76 today. Sophomore Matt Kodama matched Matsumura’s 71 to finish at 222 and in a tie for 26th.
“It wasn’t our day to make a move,” Hawai‘i Head Coach Ronn Miyashiro said. “We had a few good rounds and some not so good. I’m a little disappointed, but overall the effort was there.”
Tulsa’s David Inglis captured the individual title with three sub-70 rounds (63-66-69) and broke every significant WAC scoring record. His three round total of 198 is one of the few sub-200 scores in NCAA Division I golf this season.
Tulsa (848) won the team title by five strokes over UTEP (853), who made up 13 strokes in the final day. Hawai‘i shot a final round 295 for a three-round total of 888.
