The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team advanced to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women’s North American Championship by finishing second at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association (PCIYRA) Women’s District Championship, April 20-21. Hawai`i will host all three North American Championships, May 29-June 7.
Five of the six members of the 2001 Women’s North American Championship, All-American Molly O’Bryan, All-American Crew Sarah Hitchcock, Renee DeCurtis, Melody Torres and Jennifer Warnock, sailed for Hawai`i. Warnock was voted regatta MVP.
Stanford won the regatta and also qualified for the Women’s North American Championship.
The Rainbow Wahine are currently ranked fifth in the Sailing World magazine college poll. The coed team is ranked 13th.
Next up for Hawai`i sailing are the coed PCIYRA Team and Dinghy District Championships, April 26-28, which will be held at Keehi Lagoon. The Rainbow Wahine sail next at the ICSA Women’s North American Championships, May 29-31, at Keehi Lagoon.
