UH Drops Pair of 1-Run Games in Chevron Tourney

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine softball team lost two one-run games today in the Chevron Malihini Softball Tournament at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

In the first game, UH took a 1-0 lead in the first as Stacie Hirano singled to right center after one out. She moved to second on Kate Judd's single to left, both runners moved up on the walk to Stacey Porter, and then Hirano scored on April Crowell's single to short.

That lead help up until the bottom of the seventh, when Rogalsky homered opposite field to right to tie it at 1-1. Foltz then singled to left and was pinch-ran for by Lawson. Heliotes single through the left side advancing Lawson to second. Lauren Hiramoto then pushed both runners up on the sacrifice bunt. But Christy Cerecedes hit into a fielder's choice as Lawson was put out trying to score at home, with Constanzo moving to third on the rundown. Phillips then hit a sharp ball that went off the glove of Judd at short to allow the unearned run to score.

UH's Melissa Coogan (5-5) went six-plus innings as Sheri Oronoz came in getting only two outs.

In the nightcap, Oregon State's Hoffman tossed a no-hitter as the Beavers blanked UH, 1-0. Hoffman struckout five. Oronoz (9-5) was dealt the loss scattering six hits and walking two.

Oregon State scored in the second inning when Prochaska singled to left, advanced on Petersen's single to second, then Prochaska scored on a grounder to Trisha Ramos playing well in at third, her throw was on the bag at third where Judd was covering, but the shortstop could not hang on allowing Prochaska to score on the error.

Hawai`i enters the double-elimination round tomorrow as the No. 2 seed, one of three teams at 1-2 in the tourney. OSU is the No. 1 seed. The Rainbow Wahine play at 10 a.m.
