Hawai`i Sweeps Twinbill with 'Cats, Pride

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i finished off its 17-game homestand with a doubleheader sweep of both Northwestern and Hofstra tonight at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UH's Sheri Oronoz (14-7) tossed the complete game in the opener against Northwestern scattering seven hits and allowing only one earned run while whiffing three and walking one.

UH came out swinging the bats off Wildcat starter Lauren Schwendimann (7-2) tallying three runs in the first highlighted by Denise Dahlberg's two-run single to left. Stacey Porter also added an infield hit with the bases loaded to drive in Natalie Gonzales from third.

In the second inning, April Crowell delivered a two-out single to right to knock in Gonzales again.

The Wildcats pulled to within two in the fifth when Rane Gunderson hit a two-run single to center to score both Robyn Pettinger and J.C. Kira.

UH added two more insurance runs in the sixth on Stacie Hirano's first career home run to right field with Gonzales aboard.

In the nightcap against Hofstra, UH's Shannon Tabion tossed a four-hitter in leveling her record at 2-2. She struckout five and walked three.

Kate Judd's three-run home run, her seventh of the season, was the difference in the third inning with Gonzales and Hirano aboard.

UH runs its record to 23-15 on the year while Northwestern falls to 9-8-1 and Hofstra goes to 8-19.
