Warriors Fall to No. 6 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team saw its five-match win streak snapped by No. 6 Stanford, Saturday, with a 5-2 defeat at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Cardinal swept the season series having defeated the Warriors in Kona in November.

The bright spot for the Warriors (12-7) was the play of Lincoln Leeder, who handed Stanford's Phil Sheng a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 defeat for UH's only point. The doubles team of Kai Ohuchi and Jorge Gonzales defeated Stanford's Joe Kao and Chris Meyer, 8-6, but the Cardinal still took the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

Four ranked players grace Stanford's roster. No. 4 K.J. Hippensteel defeated Reginaldo Moralejo in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3. UH's Justin Menolascino dropped a 7-6, 6-0 decision to No. 37 David Martin at No. 2 singles while Malino Oda suffered a 7-5, 6-0 setback to No. 57 Ryan Haviland in the third position.

At No. 4 singles, Francisco Brignole extended No. 73 Scott Lipsky to three games before falling, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. Jorge Gonzales won 6-0 in the first set of his three-game match with Sam Warburg but still lost, 6-1, 7-6.

The Warriors continue its road trip with a match at Cal Poly SLO, Monday.
