BERKELEY, CA - The Rainbow Wahine opened the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season today by falling, 12-4, to the fourth-ranked California Bears Friday at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
The score was tied at one in the first period when Hawaii (5-3, 0-1 MPSF) allowed four goals in the next three minutes to trail 5-2 and Cal never looked back. The Rainbow Wahine failed to score until the third period, but it was too late as the Bears added four more goals to run away with their first MPSF win.
Sophomore driver/2M Erin Kocher lead the Rainbow Wahine with two goals, while senior utility Karin van Hoff and freshman Margaret Gnadt added one each.
The 12th-ranked Rainbow Wahine continue MPSF play tomorrow at Pacific. Match time is set for noon PST. They will complete the road trip by driving to UC Davis to meet the Aggies in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. PST.
