RAINBOW WAHINE WIN TWO AT NoGRIP INVITATIONAL

SAN DIEGO, CA - The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team opened day one of the UC San Diego Arena NoGrip Invitational with two wins Saturday at Canyonview Pool.

The Rainbow Wahine defeated host UC San Diego, 8-4, in the first match of the day. Three players scored a pair of goals including senior utility Karin van Hoff, sophomore utility Chelsea Garner-Prohs, and freshman 2M Makana Whitford. Freshman driver Tessa Curti and freshman 2M Beth Novick rounded out the scoring for Hawai'i.

In the second match, Hawai'i defeated Indiana 8-3. Garner-Prohs led the way with four goals to finish with six on the day. Van Hoff, freshmen drivers Lissy Schweitzer and Darcy Scott-Hosaka, along with freshman utility Margaret Gnadt all scored a goal to help the Rainbow Wahine improve to 5-1 on the season.

The tournament concludes tomorrow. Hawai'i will meet Long Beach State at 10:20 a.m. PST, and Loyola Marymount at 5:20 p.m. PST.

In other matches, San Diego State def. California Baptist, 12-11, Hartwick def. Long Beach State 6-4, Loyola Marymount def. California Baptist, 10-3, UC Irvine def. Hartwick, 6-5, UC San Diego def. Indiana, 9-5, Loyola Marymount def. San Diego State, 5-3, and Long Beach State def. UC Irvine, 13-4.
