UH Defeats Alumnae, 5-1

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i softball team hosted and defeated its Alumnae tonight, 5-1, at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

In a game full of fun and renewing the past, UH started off with single runs in the second and third innings on an RBI single by Shannon Tabion in the second and Amy Taniguchi scored on a wild pitch in the third.

UH broke the game open with three more runs in the fourth as April Crowell added an RBI single to drive home Tracie Uchima and Kate Judd delivered a two-run double to left center to knock home both Taniguchi and Crowell.

The Alumnae added a single run in the seventh as Alison Rapanot single to lead off the inning. Kelley Hupp came in as a pinch-runner and advanced to third on Kristin Anderson's single to right center. Hupp would later score on a wild pitch.

The Alumnae's Richlyn Tada suffered the loss going the distance while UH used four pitchers with Tabion notching the victory.

The UH Rainbow Wahine depart on Tuesday for week-long road trip to Arizona to battle No. 8 Arizona State Feb. 27 and participate in the UofA Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by No. 1 Arizona March 1-3
