WAHIAWA, HI – The University of Hawai‘i men’s golf team finished the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in 11th place with an 882 total, Feb. 22.

Even with a final round 295, the Warriors were unable to keep pace with the low scoring that summed up the final day. However, sophomore Matt Kodama took charge by shooting a final round 67, to finish the tournament tied for second. Kodama started the day seven-strokes back of the lead before finishing only two-back, with a six-under-par 209 total. Senior Norman-Ganin Asao also had a good tournament, finishing tied for 12th with a 216 total after firing a round of 73.

San Diego State won the team title with a wire to wire run, thanks to a 274 first round that gave them the early lead. In the final round, the Aztecs shot a day’s best 284 to finish strong with an 853 total. The team was led by John Lieber who won the individual title in similar fashion. Lieber’s first round 65 propelled him to a two-stroke victory over California’s Scott Carlyle and Kodama.
