WAIKOLOA, Hawai‘i – The University of Hawai‘i men’s golf team found the going rough at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate, Feb. 15. Held at the challenging Waikoloa Kings’ Course, the Warriors finished in 21st with a 908 three-day total.
The entire field struggled on the final day, with only one team able to improve on their second round score. The Warriors managed to fight their way up two spots from 23rd on the final day, with a round of 310. The team was led by senior Norman-Ganin Asao and sophomore Matt Kodama, who both finished tied for 50th with 224 totals. Freshman Kellen-Floyd Asao also managed to contribute with a 225 total, tying for 59th.
Georgia Tech captured the team title with a four-under-par 860 total after rounds of 281-285-294. The Yellow Jackets were led by Troy Matteson who held off a charging Nick Watney of Fresno State. Matteson finished with a 210 total, only one better than Watney.
The Warriors have a chance to improve on their spring start on Feb. 20-22, when they host the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawai‘i.
