Day 3 Results
Cheyne Bloch broke another school record at the third and final day of the Texas Invitational. This time the junior from Wailuku, Maui, did it in the 200 breaststroke with a time of one minute and 57.04 seconds as the No. 24th ranked Rainbow men's swimming team finished in 6th place with 292 points, while the Rainbow Wahine dropped a spot into 11th with 76 points as both Texas men's and women's teams won the invite.
Bloch, a two-time All-American, broke the UH record in the finals of the 200 Breast as he took third place and surpassed his old mark of 1:57.69 recorded earlier this year. It was the second automatic qualifying time for Bloch at the invite also accomplishing the feat in the 100 Breast (53.92) on the second day of the invitational.
Three UH swimmers recorded NCAA consideration times in their respective events. Tudor Ignat hit a consideration time in the 200 Breast (2:00.73) finishing in 10th in the finals and Kurt Boehm recorded a consideration time in the 200 Fly (1:47.91). And, on the women's side, Yan Chen also finished ninth in the 200 Fly (2:01.04) for a consideration time, which is also the second fastest in school history.
In the 10-meter platform diving, only Mike Gowdy participated among the three divers UH sent. Gowdy took fifth place overall with a score of 411.40 among the seven men that dived.
The next UH swimming meet is slated for December 19 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. UH will be taking on the Oregon State women, and both the men's and women's teams from Central Washington, Dartmouth, and Cincinnati. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
