Rainbow Wahine Toppled by No. 1 Stanford

LAHAINA, Maui - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team concluded its fall season with a 7-0 shutout loss against top ranked Stanford, Friday at the Royal Lahaina Resort. The Rainbow Wahine wrapped upped its fall season with a 0-1 mark.

The Rainbow Wahine were overmatched against the top-ranked Cardinal, losing each of the six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets. Stanford featured four singles players ranked in the preseason Top 100 and two doubles teams in the Top 50.

Sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald played the No. 1 singles and doubles positions for UH. She fell to Stanford's Amber Liu, ranked No. 67, 6-2, 6-1 in singles and partnered with Paige Mainor in losing to the fifth-ranked team of Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette, 8-0. Mainor lost her singles match to seventh-ranked Burdette, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles.

The Rainbow Wahine will travel to Washington State on Feb. 7 to begin its spring slate.
