Rainbow Wahine in 16th at Heather Farr Memorial

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - The University of Hawai‘i women’s golf team finished the first round of the Heather Farr Memorial Tournament in 16th place after a round of 330.

The Rainbow Wahine found the Omni Interlocken golf course a stern test as they trail leader Nevada by 32 strokes. However, the Wahine could make a substantial move in tomorrow’s final round as five teams are within a striking distance of seven strokes.

The Wahine were paced by senior Laura DuLucia who finished the first round in a tie for 27th after a round of 78. Freshman Tara Chappell contributed with an 81 to finish tied for 57th. Overall the Wahine improved as they played the course, with four of the five players bettering their front nine scores.

Nevada’s opening round of 298 was the only sub-300 team score, giving them a three shot lead over host Colorado. Idaho sits in third place with a 302, thanks to the efforts of Maria Valente who is tied for the individual lead with Colorado State’s Lynette Duran.

The final 18-holes of the 36-hole event will be played tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
