Warriors Finish 18th at Fresno Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men’s golf team finished 18th at the Fresno Lexus Classic, Oct. 12. The Warriors were unable to make a move on the final day, shooting a 309 to finish with a 927 total.

The San Joaquin Country Club proved to be very challenging for Hawai‘i. Junior Matt Kodama led the team’s effort by finishing tied for 49th. Kodama overcame a tough first round score of 85, with rounds of 69 and 73, to finish with a 227 total. Freshman James Beston went the other way, as he struggled in the final round, carding an 83. Beston finished tied for 69th with a 231 total.

Host Fresno State took advantage of their familiarity with the course, by taking the team title with an 870 total. Nick Watney led the Bulldogs’ effort with a 12-under-par 204 total, which gave him the individual title.

Hawai‘i will next tee up at the Barona Collegiate Classic in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 21-22.
