The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team opened its spring season by winning the Rainbow Invite Jan. 19-20. The team split into five squads for the regatta with UH Green finishing first. The other squads finished second, eighth, 10th and 12th. The Rainbow Wahine also opened their season at the Invite and finished 11th. UC Santa Barbara finished third. Strong winds shortened the regatta to 10 races over two days.
The winning UH Green team of Bryan Lake, Jennifer Warnock, Adam Corpuz-Lahne and Melody Torres earned a total of 74 points. UH Yellow with Steve Brown, Ann Feeley-Summerl, Joey Pasquali and Lindsay Peters, finished second with 112 points. All-Americans Molly O’Bryan and Sarah Hitchcock, along with Renee DeCurtis, Marin Diskant and Stephanie Harris sailed for the Rainbow Wahine, who finished with 196 points.
The coed team sails next at the St. Mary’s Team Racing Intersectional March 2-3, in St. Mary’s City, Md. Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the Navy Spring Women’s Intersectional, March 9-10, in Annapolis, Md.
