Warriors Finish 20th at the Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished a disappointing 20th place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 22.

The Warriors put themselves in a hole after the first two rounds, eight shots back of the next team. The team managed a final round 305, their best of the tournament, but was unable to climb out of last place. Hawai'i was paced by sophomore Matt Kodama, who finished tied for 29th with a 222 total. Senior Norman-Ganin Asao was the next closest Warrior, with a 233 total, tying him for 85th.

Host New Mexico took advantage of the home course, jumping out to an insurmountable lead after a first round of 278. The Lobos closed with rounds of 294 and 287 for an 859 total to take the team title by 11 strokes. BYU's Manuel Merizalde won medalist honors with a final round 66. Merizalde's 209 seven-under-par total was three strokes better than his closest competitor.

Hawai'i will next play Oct. 5-6 at the Fresno Lexus Classic in Fresno, Calif
