Willoughby and Wahine Pound Out Four-Game Win Over SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The No. 12 Wahine volleyball team (13-4) defeated the San Diego State Aztecs (10-7) 30-18, 30-22, 23-30 and 30-19 at the Cox Arena Wednesday.

Kim Willoughby again had a phenomenal night for the Wahine, recording 32 kills and a career-high 25 digs. It marked the third time this season that Willoughby reached the 30-kill plateau. Maja Gustin also added 16 kills, while Lauren Duggins had seven kills and 14 digs. Nohea Tano also had a great match with nine kills, four digs, three blocks and a .615 hitting percentage. Defensive specialist Hedder Ilustre dug six balls and whacked two kills from the backrow.

Hawai`i came out on fire, breezing through the first two games 30-18 and 30-22, hitting .680 and .400 each game.

The Aztecs then started to make things tough for UH as they traded points for a while before taking control and winning the game 30-23. The Wahine then got back to business, taking game 4 easily by the count of 30-19.

Hawai`i will now head to San Jose, Calif., to face the 16-3 San Jose State Spartans tomorrow at 7 p.m. PT. UH will then play at Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 20 with a noon PT start.
