    Volunteer Coach - Pole Vault
Dr. Spencer Chang has spent the past decade working with the Hawai‘i coaching staff as the team's pole vault coach.

Under Chang's tutelage, three pole vaulters have qualified for the NCAA Regional including Jessica Custance, who was a three-time participant. In addition his athletes have won seven Western Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor medals and two of his athletes set the school's indoor (Tiziana Ruiz Dominiguez - 13/1.75/4.01m) and outdoor (Patricia Gauthier - 13-3/4.06m) records.

A local product of ‘Iolani School, Dr. Chang is a graduate of the University of Washington where he lettered as a pole vaulter.

Dr. Chang completed medical school and orthopedic residency at UH. He is fellowship trained in sports medicine and foot and ankle surgery and is currently the Sports Medicine/Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeon at Straub Hospital in Honolulu.

From 1992-2000, Dr. Chang coached the pole vaulters at ‘Iolani. He had been working with the UH pole vaulters between 2000-02 prior to coming aboard on a more full-time basis.

Dr. Chang has produced an instructional pole vault video called "Vault 2000," and since March 2002, he has worked with the national USA Track & Field Pole Vault Development Staff as a Medical Advisor.

He and his wife, May, reside in Honolulu with their daughter, Skyler.
