NEW YORK - Former University of Hawai`i record setting quarterback Colt Brennan was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Brennan was the only Warrior selected in the two-day, seven-round draft which was conducted at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Brennan was the 20th pick in the sixth round (186th overall) and one of three Redskins picks in that round. The NCAA's all-time touchdown passes leader (131) finished third in this year's Heisman Trophy race. Brennan led UH to an undefeated (12-0) regular season and trip to the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the school's first Bowl Championship Series appearance.

Brennan finished his career with a total of 31 NCAA records under his belt and the most prolific passer in school, WAC, and arguably NCAA history. He finished third all-time in career passing yards (14,193) and second in total offense (14,740) and passing efficiency (167.6).

Brennan is the first UH quarterback drafted since Rafael Cherry was selected by Washington in the fifth round of the 1985 Draft. Although a quarterback in college, Cherry played defensive back for the Redskins. Larry Arnold was the last UH signal caller to be drafted and play that position in the NFL (1970 by Los Angeles Rams).

The Irvine, Calif., native continues the UH tradition of quarterbacks playing in the professional ranks. Timmy Chang, the NCAA's all-time passing yardage leader, is currently playing the Canadian Football League. Nick Rolovich and Dan Robinson were free agent signees for several NFL teams.
