Coralie Simmons begins her first year as an assistant coach on the UH water polo staff. Her duties include working with field players, drivers, 2-meter, center forwards, lefties, and goalies.
For the past four years, she played for two different professional water polo teams in Athens, Greece. her squads won three Greek Championships and one European Cup. Upon her return from Greece, she has helped both Punahou School and Hawaiian Island programs.
Simmons brings a walth of national and international experience to the program. She was a two-time National Player of the Year at UCLA. In her final season with the Bruins in 2001, UCLA captured its fourth national title in the inaugural NCAA title match. She was the recipient of the Pete Cutino Award and named the NCAA Tournament MVP.
She sat out the 1999 season at UCLA to play on the U.S. Women's Natinoal Team, which won silver medals at both the Pan-American Games in 1999 and the Olympics in Sydney in 2000.
In 2001, she took home silver at the 2001 Fina Cup and led the team in scoring.
The 28-year-old majored in geography/environmental studies at UCLA. She enjoys surfing, hiking, cooking, and playing on the beach with Ruby, her dog.
