Coming off of a 9-4 season and Hawai‘i Bowl victory, former record-setting quarterback Timmy Chang enters his fifth season at the helm of the University of Hawai‘i football program in 2026. Chang was hired as the 25th head coach in school history after being named to the position on Jan. 22, 2022.

  • Led the Rainbow Warriors to a 9-4 season and victory in the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl in 2025.
  • Named the AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year.
  • Guided UH to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2019 and first bowl game bid since 2021.
  • Coached Hawai‘i to two wins over ACC opponents in 2025, opening the season with a win over Stanford before beating California in the Hawai‘i Bowl.
  • UH erased a 21-point deficit to beat the Golden Bears in the Hawai‘i Bowl, matching the largest come-from-behind win in program history.
  • Named the 25th head coach in University of Hawai‘i program history on January 22, 2022.
  • At Nevada, helped direct one of the most potent offensive attacks in the country which ranked fourth nationally in 2021
  • Member of four bowl teams at Nevada.
  • Helped coach three pass catchers who were named to the Fred Biletnikoff Award Watch List in 2021, including two-time All-Mountain West selections Romeo Doubs and Cole Turner.
  • Offensive coordinator at Emory and Henry College in 2016 which averaged 33.0 points and 463.5 yards per game.
  • Spent two seasons as offensive coordinator at Jackson State in 2014 and ’15. The team led the Southwestern Athletic Conference and finished among the national leaders in multiple categories including passing yards, completions, completion percentage, and total offense.
  • Received his first coaching stint as a graduate assistant at SMU under his collegiate head coach June Jones for two seasons assisting all aspects of the Mustangs’ offense with a primary focus on the quarterbacks.
  • In his first season at SMU, the Mustangs earned an invitation to the Hawai‘i Bowl where they defeated Fresno State.

  • Four-year starter at Hawai‘i from 2000-04.
  • Set the NCAA’s all-time passing (17,072) and total offense (16,901) records.
  • Finished his career with 117 total touchdowns, which ranked third at the time.
  • Two-time Hawai‘i Bowl Most Outstanding Player (2003 and ’04).
  • Led UH to three bowl appearances and a program-record 29 wins as a starter.
  • In his final season at UH, was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Award, given to the nation’s top senior quarterback.
  • First-team All-WAC in 2004, second-team in 2002, and honorable mention in 2000 and ’03.
  • WAC Freshman of the Year in 2000.
  • Recorded 36 career games with 300+ yards passing and 11 with 400+ yards.
  • Played professionally in the National Football League, Canadian Football League, and NFL Europe for four seasons.
  • Retired from professional football in 2009 and returned to Hawai‘i to complete his bachelor’s degree.
  • Record-setting quarterback at Honolulu’s Saint Louis School, where he threw for 8,001 yards and 113 touchdowns.
