Mike Trapasso took over the University of Hawai‘i baseball program in 2002, leading the program through the transition from the WAC to the Big West in 2013. Trapasso has led his teams to winning records in 12* seasons and guided his teams to 30 or more wins in eight of his seasons. Trapasso enters his 20th season in 2021 at Hawai‘i with a 512-505 overall record.

  • 2020 team ranked third in the country in sacrifice flies (14), fourth in sacrifice bunts (18), 30th in walks allowed per nine innings (3.05) and 23rd in fielding percentage (14 errors).
  • Won 500th career game at California Baptist April 30, 2019.
  • Recruited and mentored 43 MLB Draft picks.
  • Mentored three All-Americans, 10 freshmen All-American selections, 27 All-Big West selections, 52 All-WAC selections and 80 academic all-conference selections.
  • Inducted into the Greater St. Louis Baseball Hall of Fame as a player and coach in 2015.
  • 2008 team finished 10th in the country in fielding percentage (.975).
  • Guided 2006 team to the most road wins in Hawai‘i history (16-5).
  • 2006 National Coach of the Year - National Baseball Foundation.
  • 2006 National Coach of the Year Finalist - College Baseball Insider.
  • Three-time WAC Coach of the Year (2011, '06, '04).
  • Led 2006 Rainbow Warriors to first NCAA Regional since 1992.
  • Coached team to two NCAA Regional appearances (2010, '06).
  • 2004 Team USA Assistant Coach with team that played at the World University Baseball Games in Tainan, Taiwan.
  • 2001 top collegiate baseball assistant/recruiter in the country by Baseball America while at Georgia Tech.
  • Georgia Tech recruiting classes  ranked fourth, 18th, seventh, first, 14th, 11th and 12th by Collegiate Baseball.

  • Four-time MLB Draft selection.
  • Golden Spikes Award finalist in 1982.
  • Member of 1983 Team USA squad.
  • Out-dueled former major leaguer Billy Swift in the 1984 CWS opening game versus Maine.
  • Led the Big Eight in ERA and was ranked fifth in the country with a 1.42 ERA in 1984.

  • He and his wife Catherine have two sons, Michel and Matthew.
  • Michel completed his undergraduate education at UH and graduated from University of Missouri Law School.
  • Matthew graduated from UH in 2020 and was a manager for the team.
