SERIES INFORMATION
  • Fresno State now leads the all-time series 31-25-1.
  • After more than three decades as fellow members of the Western Athletic Conference and Mountain West, the game marked the final meeting as conference opponents
  • Since both teams joined the Mountain West in 2012, Fresno State won nine of the 13 match-ups including five of the seven meetings in Honolulu.

UH IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
  • UH is 34-70 (.327) all-time in the MW, including 20-34 (.370) at home.
  • UH dropped to 5-9 in Mountain West openers since joining the league in 2012, including a 2-3 mark at home. 
  • Under Timmy Chang, UH is 0-4 in MW openers with three of those games on the road.

TEAM STREAKS/TRENDS 
  • UH saw its four-game home win streak, its longest at Ching Complex since moving into the facility in 2021, come to an end.
 
INDIVIDUAL STREAKS/TRENDS 
  • Pofele Ashlock has caught a pass in all 29 games he has played in.
  • After a pair of field goals versus Fresno State, Kansei Matsuzawa has started the season with 13 straight field goals made, tying a school record set by Rigoberto Sanchez who hit all 13 of his attempts in 2016. 
  • Dating back to last season, Matsuzawa has made 14 straight field goals, the second longest streak in school history. Jason Elam holds the record with 20 straight made during the 1989 season.

TEAM NOTES
  • The UH defense recorded a season-high eight tackles for loss.
  • UH recorded its first safety since 2019 (at Nevada) when De’Jon Benton had a sack fumble in the second quarter that was recovered by a Fresno State lineman.
  • UH’s Jamih Otis returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for UH’s second defensive touchdown of the year.
  • It was UH’s first fumble recovery for a touchdown since 2023 (Meki Pei vs. Air Force, 32 yards).
  • It’s the first time since at least 1995 that UH recorded both a safety and fumble return TD in the same game.
  • UH has turned the ball over at least once in four of the first five games.
  • UH has had multiple turnovers in three of five games this year. 
  • UH gave up more than 200 yards passing for the first time in five games this season when EJ Warner finished with 230 yards through the air. 
  • UH gave up a pick-six for the second time in the last three games with K’Vion Thunderbird’s 59-yard return in the fourth quarter. 
  • Hawai‘i has had at least one player with five or more receptions in 21 consecutive games, dating back to November 2023, tied for the longest FBS streak in the country with fellow Mountain West member Utah State.
  • Timmy Chang now has a 14-11 home record at Ching Complex including a 6-7 mark against Mountain West opponents.
  • UH fell to 18-13 all-time at Ching Complex. 

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Kansei Matsuzawa set a new career long when he nailed a 52 yard field goal in the third quarter, his first-ever attempt of 50 yards or longer.
  • Matsuzawa is now a perfect 7-of-7 this season on field goals 40 yards or longer. 
  • Blaze Kamoku scored his first career touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Micah Alejado with 10 seconds left in the game. 
  • Tama Uiliata set new career highs in catches (5) and receiving yards (47).
  • Jaheim Wilson-Jones led UH with six tackles, tying a career high.
  • De’Jon Benton had multiple tackles-for-loss for the second time this season (also at Arizona).
  • Qwyn Williams recorded a season-high five tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
  • Redshirt freshman Boogie Henderson made his first career start at left tackle.
