GAME INFORMATION
  • The game was delayed 101 minutes due to inclement weather. Originally scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT, the game started at 8:11 p.m. CT.
 
SERIES INFORMATION
  • Vanderbilt leads the series, 2-0.
  • The teams opened their seasons in Week 0 in 2022 and 2023.
  • In the two meetings, the Commodores out-scored Hawai‘i, 42-0 in the third quarter.
 
VERSUS THE SEC
  • Hawai‘i dropped to 3-11-1 all-time against current members of the Southeastern Conference including 0-5 on the road.
  • In the five SEC road games, UH has been out-scored 201-57.
  • Hawai‘i played its first SEC opponent on the road since the 2008 season-opener at Florida.

INDIVIDUAL STREAKS/TRENDS 
  • DT John Tuitupou made his 14th consecutive start and QB Brayden Schager made his 10th consecutive start.
  • Schager threw a touchdown pass for the 10th consecutive game.
  • LB Logan Taylor’s streak of six consecutive games of 10+ tackles was snapped.

TEAM NOTES
  • UH dropped to 3-4 all-time in Week 0 including 2-3 on the road.
  • Hawai‘i opened on the road in Week 0 for the fifth time since 2016 and opened the season away from home for the sixth time in the last eight years.
  • Hawai’i is 63-39-5 (.612) all-time in season openers.
  • Jayden McGowan’s 97-yard kickoff return for touchdown was the first by a UH opponent since Utah State’s Brandon Bowling in 2021.
  • Eight different receivers caught at least one pass.
  • UH out-gained Vanderbilt in total offense, 391-to-297
  • After surrendering 404 yards rushing to Vanderbilt in the 2022 meeting, UH allowed a measly 39 yards in this year’s match-up
  • The two teams failed to rush for 100 yards marking the first UH game since 2013 that neither the Warriors or their opponent broke the century mark. (UH-40, Vandy-39). The last time that occurred was UH’s game at Oregon State, Sept. 7, 2013.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • QB Brayden Schager completed his first eight passes of the game and finished 27-of-34 for a career-high 351 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
  • Schager’s three passing touchdowns also tied a career high and his 27 completions was a new career-high.
  • WR Pofele Ashlock caught seven passes in his collegiate debut for a team-high 127 yards and scored his first career touchdown with a 3-yard reception in the fourth quarter. He had three catches on that scoring drive, including a 35-yard reception.
  • Ashlock later hauled in a 50-yard catch in the fourth quarter.
  • Kansas transfer WR Steven McBride caught a 9-yard touchdown from Schager in the first quarter for his first career reception as a Rainbow Warrior. McBride and Schager connected again on a 45-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
  • McBride finished with seven catches for 98 yards.
  • LB Isaiah Tufaga recorded two sacks in the second quarter, the fourth and fifth of his career.
  • Tufaga led the UH defense and tied his career-high with eight tackles, including three for loss.
  • OL/RB Solo Vaipulu caught his first career pass in the second quarter on a 23-yard catch-and-run to the Vanderbilt 1.
  • DL Andrew Choi set a new career-high with seven tackles (6 solo), including a sack to close out the first half.
  • WR Alex Perry set a new career-high with five catches for 51 yards while TE Grayson Morgan also had a career-high five receptions for 33 yards.
  • RB Landon Sims made his first career appearance as a running back and gained a team-high 38 yards on nine carries.
  • In his UH debut, QB Dalen Morris scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 35-28.
  • After his first punt went for 0 yards, Matthew Shipley averaged 50.3 yards on his next three punts.
  • Nine players made their first career starts as Rainbow Warriors – LT Josh Atkins, LT Ka‘ena DeCambra, RB Tylan Hines, WR Pofele Ashlock, WR Chuuky Hines, WR Steven McBride, NT Kuao Peihopa, NB CJ Williams, and CB Cam Stone.
  • Freshmen DB Elijah Palmer also made his UH debut and finished with two tackles.
