2022-23 RAINBOW WAHINE TENNIS 

WTEN BW Champions 2023

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • Finished the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 14-8 while going 8-1 in The Big West

 

  • Became the first team in program history to win both the Big West regular season and BW Championship tournament title in the same year

 

  • Advanced to the NCAA Tennis Team Championships for the third time in program history [2012 (WAC), ‘18 (BW), and ‘23(BW)]

 

  • Women’s tennis has not had a losing season in conference play since 2011 when UH was still a member of the WAC

 

  • Fell in the NCAA Championship’s first round to host Oklahoma, 4-0

 

  • Team was twice ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll—#64 (2/21) and #67 (4/18)

 

  • Both Madison Kim and Satsuki Takamura earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors

 

  • Five from women’s tennis earned All-Big West Honors:

 

  • Coach of the Year – Jun Hernandez

 

  •  All-Big West First Team-Singles – Nikola Homolkova, Ana Vilcek

 

  •  All-Big West Second Team-Singles – Satsuki Takamura

 

  • All-Big West Honorable Mention-Doubles – Nikola Homolkova/Ana Vilcek and Klara Novakova/Rita Pinto Team won UH’s “Top Academic Women’s Team Award” with a combined 3.61 GPA

 

  • Both Nikola Homolkova (3/29) and Ana Vilcek (2/22) received Big West Player of the Week awards

 

  • After starting the season 1-4, the Rainbow Wahine started to turn things around, going 13-4 the rest of the season—including a seven-match win-streak from 3/15-4/1. UH entered the NCAA tourney having won 11 of its last 12 matches with its lone loss coming on the road at 26th-ranked USC

2023 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP

The Rainbow Wahine secured the regular season championship after finishing the year with a 14-8 overall record and an 8-1 conference record. They would follow that up with a Big West Tournament championship with wins against UC Irvine, Long Beach State, and Cal Poly.
