SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

 

  • In the second year of the Scott Simpon era, the team posted its lowest scoring average in program history (291.0) while its par-3 scoring and par-5 scoring were also program-bests.

 

  • Team posted 10 rounds of par or better, which was the second-most in a single-season in program history.

 

  • Blaze Akana (72.37) and Atsuya Oishi (72.40) recorded the second- and third-best scoring averages in relation to par in program history.

 

  • Oishi, the team leader in five of 10 events, posted 16 rounds of par or better and his 110 birdies were the third-most in program history.

 

  • Oishi was the only Rainbow Warrior named All-Big West, earning honorable mention honors. Tyler Ogawa was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.

 

  • Akana posted the team’s highest finish on the year with a tie for seventh place at the UC San Diego Invitational, where he carded the team’s low round (66) and low 54-hole score (208).

 

  • Akana qualified and competed in his first PGA Tour event, finishing with a 3-over 143 total at the Sony Open in Hawai‘i. He was the first former Rainbow Warrior to compete in a PGA Tour event in more than a decade.

 

  • Freshman Josh Hayashida recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes, tying for 10th at the William H. Tucker Invitational and Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

 

  • Hayashida also captured the 114th Manoa Cup, the oldest amateur tournament in Hawai‘i, with a come-from-behind 2 & 1 win in the 36-hole final. He became the first UH golfer to win the tournament since T.J. Kua in 2009.

 

AWARDS & HONORS

MEMORABLE MOMENT

UH's own, Blaze Akana, qualified and competed in his first PGA Tour event, the Sony Open in Hawai'i. He finished 3 over, with a 143 total and was the first UH player to compete in a PGA event in almost a decade.

The future is bright for the Rainbow Warriors as freshman Josh Hayashida recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes, tying for 10th at the William H. Tucker Invitational and Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.
