2021-22 RAINBOW WAHINE TENNIS

2022 women's tennis senior day

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rainbow Wahine finished the 2022 season with a 12-8 overall dual match record with a 7-2 record to finish third in the Big West regular season.

  • UH advanced to the semifinal round for the sixth consecutive tournament after sweeping CSUN in the quarterfinals but failed to reach the championship match falling to Cal Poly in the semifinals.

  • In the middle of the regular season, the 'Bows went on a seven-match win streak--which included six sweeps over their opponents. It was the longest win-streak since 2018.

  • On March 24, the Rainbow Wahine made their 2022 debut in the ITA national rankings at No. 73 in the middle of their seven-match win streak. It was the first time that UH has been ranked since finishing the 2018 season at No. 65.

  • Three senior transfers all concluded their collegiate careers as Rainbow Wahine.  Gitte Heynemans, a transfer from Arizona, led Hawai‘i with a team-best 13-6 overall and 12-4 record in singles while posting a perfect 7-0 record in conference. Fellow Arizona transfer Tal Talya Zandberg also had a standout singles season, going 12-7 overall and 7-0 in the Big West. Nidhi Surapaneni, a transfer from North Texas, led UH with a 10-9 overall doubles record while going undefeated in doubles in conference at 6-0 with four different partners (Satsuki Takamura, Madison Kim, Ana Vilcek, and Heynemans).

  • Three Rainbow Wahine earned all-Big West honors. Sophomore Léa Romain (Mirabeau, France) earned first team honors in singles and was named to the All-Big West second team with doubles partner Satsuki Takamura.  In addition, Takamura received honorable mention honors in singles along with teammate, Ana Vilcek.

  • The Rainbow Wahine concluded the 2021-22 as UH's Top Academic Team with a combined 3.57 GPA.
