Post-game Notes
Utah State at Hawai‘i
Nov. 12, 2022
Clarence T.C. Ching Complex  –  Honolulu

SERIES INFORMATION
  • Utah State holds a 12-6 advantage with its seventh straight win in the series.
  • USU has won four straight games in Honolulu. UH’s last home win over the Aggies was in 2009 (49-6). USU holds a 6-4 advantage in games played in Honolulu.
  • The Aggies have won all six contests as Mountain West members. Prior to that while the schools were part of the Western Athletic Conference, UH won five of the seven contests.
  • Saturday’s meeting marked just the third time in 18 all-time meetings that the game was decided by single digits. The other times that happened were in 2011 and 1927.

UH IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
  • Hawai‘i is now 27-59 (.314) all-time in the Mountain West — including 15-29 at home.
  • Since the conference moved to two divisions in 2013, UH is 7-20 against the Mountain.

TEAM STREAKS/TRENDS
  • UH is on a season-long four-game losing streak. The last time UH lost four in a row was during the 2018 season.
  • UH has lost the opening coin toss eight straight times.

INDIVIDUAL STREAKS/TRENDS
  • Blessman Ta‘ala has played in 62 consecutive games and has not missed a game since arriving at UH in 2018.
  • Ilm Manning has started 58 of 60 career games and 25 straight games dating back to 2020.

TEAM NOTES

  • UH set season high in tackles-for-loss (8) and sacks (4).
  • UH racked up a season-high in penalty yards (115). The 10 penalties assessed were the second most this season (12 vs. Western Kentucky).
  • UH had an opponent return an interception for a touchdown for the second straight week and the third time this season when Ike Larsen returned a Brayden Schager pass 36 yards for a Utah State score in the fourth quarter.
  • Cooper Legas’ 68-yard pass to scoring strike to Josh Sterzer on Utah State’s second play from scrimmage was the longest pass play that UH has surrendered this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Brayden Schager set new career highs in in passing yards (306) and attempts (46).
  • Jonah Panoke recorded his first career touchdown with an 11-yard scoring strike from Schager in the second quarter.

  • Nasjzae Bryant-Lelei scored for the second straight game with a 4-yard rush in the third quarter. It was this third overall touchdown this season.
  • Lelei’s 43-yard run in the first quarter was a career-long and the third-longest run by a Rainbow Warrior this season.
  • Caleb Phillip scored his second touchdown this season on a 31-yard catch from Schager in the fourth quarter.
  • Tylan Hines exceeded 100 yards from scrimmage for the third straight game after finishing with 97 rushing yards on nine carries, while also adding a 29-yard reception.

  • Taylor's 53 tackles in the last four games are the most tackles by a UH player in a four-game stretch since Jahlani Tavai also had 53 in 2017 (last 4 games of season).
