SERIES INFORMATION
- UH ended a four-game losing streak to the Beavers dating back to 2006. UH’s last win against the Beavers came in the 1999 Oahu Bowl.
- Oregon State still leads the series 7-4, including 5-4 in Honolulu.
- The teams are scheduled to meet again Sept. 11, 2021 in Corvallis.
Versus The Pac-12
- The last time UH beat two Pac-12 teams in the same season was 1994 (def. Oregon, 36-16 and Cal, 21-7).
- UH holds an 32-61 (.344) record against current members of the Pac-12 conference. The Rainbow Warriors are also now 25-39 (.391) all-time at home against Pac-12 squads.
STREAKS/TRENDS
- UH has won 13 of its last 14 regular-season non-conference home games.
- UH is 8-1 in regular-season non-conference home games under Nick Rolovich with its only loss against BYU to close out 2017.
- UH’s last eight wins against Power 5 conferences have come against Pac-12 squads.
- UH is tied with Auburn for the longest streak in the country at 132 games without allowing a punt block. Hawai‘i last had a punt blocked by Notre Dame in 2008.
- UH won for just the fourth time in 22 instances when trailing at the half under Rolovich.
TEAM NOTES
- The win gives UH a 2-0 start for the third consecutive season, which was last accomplished from 1980-82.
- The last time UH beat two Power 5 teams in the same season was 2006 (def. Purdue, 42-35 and Arizona State, 41-24).
- Since 2003, UH has 12 wins versus teams from the Power 5 conferences—ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC—in 38 opportunities.
- UH pitched a shutout in the second half. The last time that happened was on Nov. 15, 2014 at San Jose State.
- The UH defense held Oregon State to just 1-of-9 on third down conversions in the second half. The Warriors also held the to just 86 yards rushing in the second half after allowing 177 in the first half and 150 yards total offense after the break.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Senior receiver JoJo Ward set career highs in catches (10), yards (189) and touchdowns (4).
- The four touchdown receptions tied a school-record. His teammate Cedric Byrd also had four touchdown in UH’s season-opening win over Arizona.
- Ward had three TDs receptions in first half alone. The last UH player to do that was John Ursua last season at San Jose State (2nd half)
- It was also Ward’s fourth career 100-yard game and his third career game with multiple touchdowns.
- Cole McDonald finished with 421 yards and four touchdown passes. It was his fourth career 400-yard game and his second straight game with four TD passes.
- McDonald has thrown for four or more touchdowns six times in his career.
- Sophomore running back Miles Reed started his first career game and finished with 42 yards on 11 carries.
- Senior linebacker Kana‘i Picanco started his first career game and finished with three tackles, one pass break up and a quarterback hurry.
- Junior receiver Melquise Stovall made an impact in his second career game with a 65-yard kickoff return in the first quarter and three catches for 42 yards, helping set up a pair of UH scoring drives.
- Ryan Meskell entered the game having nailed five straight field goals dating back to last season but missed on three attempts: a 47-yard attempt in the first quarter, a 27-yard attempt in the third quarter, and a 48-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.
- Meskell, however, made good on his fourth attempt, a 28-yarder, that proved to be the game-winner with 2:17 remaining.
- Senior safety Kalen Hicks tied a career high with 10 tackles.
